Jim, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before relocating to Gulf Breeze, Florida in 2018, passed away on September 28, 2025. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 16, 1934 to Margaret Brock George and Alton Parker George. He grew up in Louisiana and earned a bachelor’s degree from LSU in 1956. He served in the United States Air Force for three and a half years before returning to LSU to study at the LSU Law School. He loved the Law Profession and served in local and national legal organizations. In 1987, he held the position of President of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He founded the Dean Henry George McMahon Inn of Court in Baton Rouge in 1989 and was instrumental in founding several other Inns of Court in the state of Louisiana. He was chair of the Admiralty Law Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America in 1991. Jim was a member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Jim served as national Vice President of the Board of Trustees of The American Inns of Court Foundation from 1994 to 1996. Jim loved classical music and was an active member of both the Baton Rouge Symphony and Opera Louisiane boards. As chair of the Governance Committee, Jim was instrumental in bringing Opera Louisiane to prominence in the community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Baton Rouge Food Bank and was a member of the Vestry at St. Margarets Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church. While living in Gulf Breeze, Jim served as a member of the Advisory Council of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and on several committees at St. Francis Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife Judith Arnette George; sons James Alton George, Jr. and Gregory Brock George; two beloved foster grandchildren Darla and Lila Cooper, who adopted him as their “Pop”; a sister Carol, and numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Peter Brock George, and sister Connie George Bushnell. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Rose Lawn Funeral Home at 9:30 am, followed by services there at 11:00am. Internment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to Hillsdale College, where he was a proud member of the President’s Club.
