Galivants FerryJames Edward Gerrald, age 91, of Hwy. 308, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Gerrald was born August 4, 1930 in Galivants Ferry, SC, a son of the late Jack and Fannie G. Gerrald. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Kirkland Gerrald, a brother. Jack Q. Gerrald and a sister, Ruby G. Livingston. Mr. Gerrald was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of Aynor United Methodist Church, was a graduate of Aynor High School and Clemson College, where he received his B.S. and Master's Degree. He was a principal of several elementary schools in Horry County and retired from Aynor Elementary School after 42 years with the Horry County School District. Mr. Gerrald was also a member of the Horry Electric Trust Board when it began in 1992 until 2013.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Hazel Bell Gerrald, two children, Diane Gerrald Stubbs and her husband, William "Bill" Stubbs, of Columbia, SC and Steve Edward Gerrald and his wife, Rhonda Gerrald of Greenville, SC, six grandchildren, William Kirkland Gerrald, Elizabeth Hartwell Gerrald, William Gerrald Stubbs, Emily Marie Stubbs, Heath Walker Gerrald and Luke Edward Gerrald.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Aynor United Methodist Church with Rev. Kelly G. Snelgrove officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Plain United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Thursday in the church sanctuary`.
Memorials may be sent to Aynor United Methodist Church, 1007 Elm Street, Aynor, SC 29511.
Due to CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing are recommended for the services.
