James Larry Gibson (Jim) 87, passed away on July 23, 2024. He was born April 30, 1937 to Russell and Erma Lucille Gibson in Connersville.
Jim served in the United States Army for 3 years, then continued his service in the National Guard.
He was employed at D&M (Design & Manufacturing), WCI (White Implement), Frigidaire, and Retired from Visteon. He graduated from Short High School, in Liberty, attended Ivy Tech and got several Diplomas for Tool and Die. He was an amateur operator (N9DPX) and spent many years with it as his hobby. He was a member several years at Grand Avenue Methodist where he served in many offices including Trustee. He was a presently a member of First United Methodist Church where he served in several offices including Trustee and helped with several years with Tasty Luncheon.
On September 6, 1958 he married Sylvia Morris Gibson. They were honored with three children.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sylvia of 65 years; his children, Wesley J. Gibson of Dunlapsville and Debra (Kent) Miller of Freetown, IN both surviving; Also two grandsons: Wesley M. (April) Quinlan of Greensburg, IN and Kent Daniel James Miller of Freetown, IN; two great granddaughters, Mallory Jean and Lainey Louise Quinlan; nieces Dolores "Dee"(Adam) Ben, Patricia "Pat"(Kyle) Sparks, Karen (Samuel) Dickson all of Connersville; a nephew Jim (Jenna) Morris of Huntington, IN; two step grandsons, Colton Miller and Christian Miller; several other nieces and nephews and cousins all surviving.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Shirley Kay Gibson; his daughter in law, Sarah Gibson; his brother and sister in law, Donald Gibson and Catherine Morris Gibson; his nephews, Dennis Gibson and Gregory Cook; and several nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St, Connersville. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dale cemetery with military honors presented by the Fayette County Veterans Council.
