James Frederick Gilmore, a loving husband, dad, granddad, brother, and son passed away at home on Thursday, April 18, 2024. He was born in Milton, Florida on August 31, 1937 to James Franklin and Polly Marie Gilmore.
James was an honorable and active deacon at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church for many years. He was also a veteran in the United States Army and served his country with honor and distinction. He also served as a Mason. He was known as a "Jack of all trades" by working for American Cyanimid for over 30 years, Santa Rosa Hospital as an orderly, the United States Army as a radio specialist, an electrician for the community, a board member for the Bagdad Water Community, and assistant funeral associate for both the Lewis Funeral Home & Trahan Family Funeral Home, and most of all he was considered "The Best Dad Ever!!!"
James is preceded in death by his dad, James Franklin; his mom, Polly; sisters: Mary of Milton, Cary of Ohio, Marie of Milton, Nellie of Chicago, IL; brothers, Willie of Milton and Erskine of Pensacola.
James is survived by one brother, Warren (Vina) of Milton; son, LTC (Ret.) Keith Gilmore (Francisca) of Pensacola; 3 daughters, Kim Gibson (Greg-CDR (RET)) of Chesapeake, VA, Karen Gilmore of Douglasville, GA, Krystal Gilmore of Milton; goddaughter, Mona Riley Lewis (Ryan) of Milton; grandchildren: Noell of Douglasville, GA, Christopher and O of Milton, Alexxa and Zim of Chesapeake, VA, Brittany (Nick) of Pensacola, Sally (Alejandro) of Mexico, Emma (Tyler) of Fort Meade, MD, Michael (Bethzel) of Panama, Brian (Annelise) of Charlotte, NC, and Katie of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren: Sally, Cristo, and Alex of Mexico, Carter of MD, August and Luna of NC, Emmett of Tallahassee, FL, and Jeremy and Sharlize of Panama; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
On Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 5103 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
Milton, FL 32570, public visitation is at 10:00am with service to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be at Milton Keyser Cemetery following the service.
