James Goepel Obituary
James R. (Jim) Goepel, 77, of Carol Stream, Ill., died December 12, 2024. He was born August 29, 1947, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Anton E. and Edith (Howe) Goepel.
James graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1965. He served proudly with the U.S. Army / Mobile Riverine Force in the Vietnam War in 1967-1969. He married his beloved wife Barbara Rogers of Evanston in 1972 and they settled in Carol Stream, Ill., in 1980. They celebrated 52 years of marriage in May. James was a loyal member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 76 in Wheaton, Ill., and was active in the Mobile Riverine Force Association and in his community and DuPage County. James enjoyed socializing and traveling with family and friends, volunteering for local organizations and veterans causes, movies, music, car shows, golfing, and home improvement projects.
James was predeceased by his parents. Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara (Rogers) Goepel, are his son, Christian Goepel, and his wife Marisa, of Concord, Calif.; daughter, Emily Goepel, of Carol Stream; one brother, Robert Goepel, and his wife Mary of Little Canada, Minn.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many great friends and neighbors.
He will be dearly missed and remembered with love by those who knew him. A celebration of life ceremony will take place for James at a future date to be determined. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill. Those wishing to remember James in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, https://alz.org.

I remember our fishing trips and block parties. Sitting on my front porch step drinking beers with Jim barb and other neighbors. Barb are deepest condolences from Linda, Stacy, And Dennis. So many great memories. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
