James L. Goodlet, 77, of Youngstown, passed away on March 6, 2026. He was born on June 22, 1948 to the late William C. "Chuck" and Mary E. {Pugh} Goodlet.
Jim is survived by his loving children James (Carissa) Goodlet, Kimberly (Angelo) Donatelli, Kristen (Devin) Clark, Kate (Aaron) Arnold, Jeffrey (Lauren) Goodlet and Joshua (Ton'ekiana) Goodlet; grandchildren Camden, Davante, Demetrius, Abigail, Tenzley, Lorenzo, Myelle, Samuel, Reed, Silas, Mia, Grace Devon, Tessa and Wyatt; siblings Bill Goodlet and Diane Meredith; extended family members and friends.
Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War. He retired as Captain of the Kent Police Department after 30+ years of dedicated service.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his sons and a fresh cut cigar. Jim was an avid dog lover, providing a loving home for many over the years.
Jim had an unmatched sense of humor, and a love for practical jokes. He was known for his quick wit and occasional terrible Dad joke.
Jim approached each commitment he made in life seriously, and took pleasure in the simple things. Nothing brought him more joy, though, than his family, especially his grandkids.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Thursday, March 19th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., when the funeral service will begin.
