Jim Halt, age 82 of West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at his home on the morning of Tuesday, March 5, 2024.   He was born James Conrad Halt in West Elizabeth on December 14, 1941, the son of Fred W. and Edna (McLaughlin) Halt.

 

Jim was a longtime fire fighter in the area with ties to many fire departments including West Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Sutersville, Elizabeth Twp. #1, Rostraver Central, Blaine Hill, and Large. He was the past Fire Chief and a Lifetime Member of the West Elizabeth Fire Department and a lifetime member of Elizabeth Fire Department. 

 

Over his career he worked for Drecsler Cabinet Co. in Elrama, West Elizabeth Lumber, and at US Steel as a fire fighter, before retiring from the Community College of Allegheny County South Campus in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania

 

Jim loved model trains and woodworking but most of all he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; Daughter-in-law, Tammy (Williams) Halt; sister, Margaret Maker; and half siblings, Chuck Jones, and Mary Lou Bickerton. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith Marie (Wall) Halt; three sons, James (Teresa) Halt, Jr. of Sutersville, Terry (Jennifer) Halt of Elizabeth Township, and Gary Halt, of West Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Brandon (Kelsey) Halt, Jonathan (Tyler) Halt, Julieann (Louie) Halt and Brittany Halt; three great grandchildren, Gracie, Olivia and Charlee; and lots of nieces and nephews. Jim also loved his late cat Sox and current cat Betsy, who will miss him dearly. 

 

Family and friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 5:30 - 9 pm and Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 12 – 4 pm and 6 – 9 pm.  There will be a Fireman’s service on Thursday evening at 7 pm. Jim’s funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 11 am.  Fire Trucks will lead a procession and carry Jim’s casket for burial in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral service.
