James David Hamilton

James David Hamilton, 79, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026. Born on February 6, 1947 in Richlands, NC, David affectionately known as Big David, Big Daddy, and most treasured of all, Daddy-lived a life marked by devotion to his faith, his family, and his work.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph Hamilton and Velma Grace Petteway.

David earned his undergraduate degree in history with a minor in geography from East Carolina University, where he worked tirelessly to pay his way through school by playing offensive line on the university's football team. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.

David began his professional career with BellSouth and spent the majority of his business career serving in managerial roles at AT&T in commercial marketing. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate an Allstate insurance business, and he concluded his working years as a branch manager at BB&T. Throughout his career, he was respected for his leadership, integrity, and character.

While David worked hard professionally, his greatest joy was always his family. He never missed a soccer game or swim meet, faithfully showing up to cheer on his children and later his grandchildren. He loved fishing, football, and any excuse to gather with those he loved most. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his three children and grandchildren.

David will be remembered above all as a devoted, loving, and supportive father. He faithfully provided for his family's every need and encouraged his children to strive for big things while glorifying God in all they did. He was a steady presence-always ready with a listening ear, thoughtful advice, and guidance and wisdom. His life reflected his deep and abiding Christian faith. Because of that faith, his family finds comfort and hope in knowing they will see him again in Heaven.

He is survived by his children: Meridith Blackburn (Kevin), Margaret Harding (Kyle), and James David Hamilton II (Jennifer).

His cherished grandchildren include: Caroline, Walter, Henry, William, Maggie Grace, Elizabeth Anne, Meri Mae, and Liam.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Patsy Kennedy (Richard) and Peggy Black (Ken).

A life so richly lived leaves a legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love. "Big Daddy" will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
