James “Cody” Hammer passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2025 following complications from a surgery. He was 43 years old. Cody was born to James “Jim” Hammer and Sheila (Sherman) Hammer DeMoss on August 7, 1982 in Sedalia, Missouri.

Cody was a hard worker, an entrepreneur and a passionate man. After attending Blue Springs High School, he began his career in automotive painting, he started working at the company Spray Paint and Equipment. While there he started his company Prime Time Carpet Cleaning. Later he found his true calling and successfully owned and operated a thriving business, Hammer Automotive & Collision in Sugar Creek, Mo. for over 6 years. Cody learned at a young age that he enjoyed fixing things and was always up for the challenge. He was a talented mechanic and automotive painter. Cody was always willing to lend a hand and liked helping people.

When he wasn’t working Cody enjoyed hunting, taking his boat out on Stockton lake and spending time at the dirt track races watching the late models and modified races with family and friends. Cody was fearless and didn’t take life forgranted. He knew how to light up the room, enjoyed making people laugh and had a magnetic personality. Cody’s presence will be missed beyond measure by both friends and family alike.

He is survived by his mother, Sheila DeMoss; sons, Payton and Carson Hammer; daughters, Madisyn and Miley Hammer; siblings, Bethany Hammer and Jarrid Hammer; grandchildren, Ronan and Callen Hammer and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cody is preceded in death by his father, James “Jim” Hammer.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4th from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo. His funeral service will begin on Friday, December 5th at 1pm with burial to follow at Woodlawn cemetery.
