James Raymond Hargis

James Raymond Hargis, affectionately known as Jim or "Jimmy" to his family was born on January 14th, 1947 in Springfield, Colorado at his family home. He passed away on December 28th, 2024. He was the beloved son of James and Elsie Marie (Brown) Hargis and shared his childhood with two sisters, Marsha June Hargis Wright and Sandra Kay Hargis Greathouse. Jim's educational journey began in Springfield Schools, where he studied from 1st grade until his graduation in 1965.
Following high school, Jim was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country from 1966 to 1968, including a tour in Vietnam. He received the Quilt of Valor for his service. After his honorable discharge, Jim returned home and initially worked alongside his father as a plumber. His career path later led him to work for Willard Klipfel, where he honed his skills in pouring and finishing cement. In 1969, Jim embarked on a long and dedicated career with the Town of Springfield, where he served as the Water Department Manager for an impressive 43 years.
On August 14th, 1969, Jim married Luz Escobar. The couple enjoyed a brief honeymoon in Colorado Springs, thanks to Jim's three-day leave from the Town. Together, they raised two sons, Jim, born on May 26th, 1970, and Troy, born on July 24th, 1978. Jim was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Jayeden, Nathan, and Cassidy from his son Jim, and Madison and Jaxon from Troy.
Jim was a man of many passions. He was an avid fan of college football and the Denver Broncos, along with other sports. He loved playing games, especially card games. Unfortunately, Luz always beat him, but he always said he'd rather be a winner in life. Jim also loved to read, especially non-fiction and biographies.
His adventurous spirit took him and Luz on travels, especially to Wisconsin to visit Troy and his family twice a year. Although Jim always acted upset, he was really very proud when restaurants or various places would ask for Luz's ID when he stated they were senior citizens. She always had to prove she was a senior citizen. Jim told one worker, "Sir, you don't have to be jealous."
Jim's love for photography was matched by his remarkable organizational skills. He maintained a meticulously cataloged photo collection, always able to locate a specific picture in moments. Jim also had a deep love for music, collecting records from various artists, which were kept alphabetically by genre. His collection even included country music from the 1930s.
His love for organizing extended to his home, where he often rearranged cabinets, much to Luz's amusement. Jim was interested in thrifting, attending auctions, going to garage sales (especially with Freddy and Mundy), and taking weekly trips to the salvation army where he was a welcomed regular.
Jim had a tender heart for animals, particularly cats, and shared a special bond with his Siamese cat, Barney. Even after Barney's passing this last August, Jim remained steadfast in his affection and the pursuit to obtain a Siamese cat.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sandra, his grandparents James and Eudora, and his aunts and uncles. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Luz, sons Jim and Troy (Julie), sister Marsha (Don), grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jim's life was a testament to dedication, love, and humor. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
