    James E. Hopson, age 89, passed away at the Pikeville Nursing and Rehab Facility on January 25, 2025.  James was born January 13, 1936, to the late Willie David Hopson and Annie Compton Hopson.  He was the husband of the late Mary Joyce Thompson Hopson.  James was retired from Kentucky Power Company and attended Maranatha Bible Church.

    Besides his wife and parents James was preceded in death by five sisters, Terra Lockhart, Tennie Thompson, Nancy Fields, Mentie Meade, Lorraine Osborne, four brothers, Lonnie Hobson, David Hobson, Eugene "Ell" Hobson and Edward Hobson.

    James is survived by two daughters, Terri (Greg) Bryant, Rhonda (Greg) Hensley, one son, Mike (Susan) Hopson, five grandchildren, James (Missy) Bryant, Megan (Chris) Eder, William (Morgan) Hensley, Michael (Bethany) Hopson and Ethan Hopson, one great grandchild, Mara Bryant, a special niece Karen Thompson, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

    Visitation will be Friday January 31, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Lucas and Son Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be Saturday February 1, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Lucas and Son Funeral Home with burial to follow at Davidson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial gift to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital.  www.stjude.org
