Born 11/21/49 in Yonkers, NY
It is with profound sadness that the family of James announces his sudden passing on March 10, 2026 at the age of 76. Predeceased by parents James Sr. & Elizabeth Horne; in-laws Elmer & Grace Knitter. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Gail (Knitter); children- Amy Thrush & Katie (Robert) Montgomery; grandchildren- Louden & Whitney Thrush and James & Mya Montgomery; granddog Coco; siblings- William (Maria) Horne, Coleen (Richard) Campbell, Eileen Horne, Thomas (Danielle) Horne; Chris(Mary) Biear; In-laws- Peter (Joanne) Knitter, Patrick (Barb) Knitter, Thomas (Janice )Knitter, David (Fran)Knitter; close friends Ed & Adelina Davin; John Kaimimoku & family; many other loving family and friends.
James proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a wonderful father who loved his family with everything he had and an amazing grandfather whose grandkids meant the absolute world to him. James was the kind of “Papa” every child deserves- present, proud and full of love. He was a devoted husband, a great big brother and a loyal friend to so many people who were lucky enough to know him. James had a way of making people feel welcomed, supported and cared for. James was the kind of man you could always count on…the kind of man whose presence made life better for everyone around him. The world feels a little heavier without him in it.
Our family is heartbroken but so grateful for the love, the lessons, the memories and most importantly the laughter he gave us. James will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Special thanks to Dr. Bonenfant/Jessica and the VA Department for their compassionate care over the years.
Please send donations to Honor Flight Rochester or the American Legion-Smith Warren Post #367 Scottsville in his honor. James’ Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday April 18th at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church 99 Main Street Scottsville.
