James C. "Monk" Hughes of Clanton, Alabama passed away December 26, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.
He was born June 19, 1934, in Alabama, son of the late Percy Hughes and the late Dorothy Hughes.
He was the owner of cabinet building and installation company. Jim served his country honorably in the United States Air Force where he was an Air Policeman. Jim also was a Golden Gloves Boxer in the Air Force and would be involved in exhibition boxing matches with other service men. Jim was a long time member of the Clanton Country Club where he loved to play golf, dominos and any card game you could play.
Surviving are his Daughter, Tab (Mitchell ) Hughes-Mount; Grandson, Garrett Mount; Granddaughters, Amber (Cohen) Greene, Allison Mount; Great-Grandchildren, Graham and Miller Greene, Olivia and Connor Nave, Step-Son, Kerry (Stacy) Nave; Step-Daughter, Holly (Bill) Rupp.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Betty Varden Hughes; Father, Percy Hughes; Mother, Dorothy Hughes; Brother, Robert Hughes; Sister, Faye Burchfield; Brother, Iris Nix.
Friends will be received Saturday January 3, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Intermet will be January 5, 2026 at 10:15am at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama.
