James Taylor "Jim" Inge Jr.

JAMES "JIM" TAYLOR INGE JR., 78, of Louisville, passed on Thursday, March 19, 2026. He was born on August 15, 1947 to the late James Inge Sr. and Kathleen (Hammack) Inge.

Raised in Sturgis, Union County, KY, he was an Educator for the United States Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) for most of his career. His job took him and his family to England, living in several villages in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, and Norfolk near American military bases with schools for military dependent children.

He attended Sturgis High School and was part of the first graduating class of the new Union County High School in 1965. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, where he met his wife Judi. He also served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972.

He was an amateur used car dealer for most of his life, buying low and selling high as a way to meet new people, experience different cars, and spend time with his sons. In his retirement he was able to go pro, operating Inge Family Motors in Owensboro, where he took pride in finding cars he'd trust and passing them on to customers, and in some years even accidentally making a profit!

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years Judith Taylor Inge; his sons James Inge III (Cate), Taylor Inge (Kim), and Grant Inge (Brittany); his sister Marie Hancock (Joe); his mother-in-law Nelda Taylor; and his grandchildren Grace, Ruby, Breaker, Ma'Kayla, and Naomi Inge.

Memorial visitation will be from 10 am until 1 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026 with a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 pm after visitation at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Rd.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for donations in his memory to go to the First Car Project or TKO Parkinson's in Louisville.
