James Stanley Ivey

James Stanley Ivey (Stan), age 80, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and resident of League City, Tx went to be with our Lord and Savior, on November 13, 2024 at 7:54pm after battling 4 years of Cancer, COPD, and then a Stroke.

He attended Grade School in Galveston Tx and graduated High School (Class of 1962) from Texas City, Tx. He went on and attended College at Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Tx and received many credited hours from College of Mainland.

As a child, Stan grew up playing Baseball, Basketball and Tennis mostly in Texas City, Tx. He was also on the Highschool Debate Team. In his adult years the sports he loved the most were Bowling and Golf. He participated for many years in both sports and considered himself a good competitor. Although he knew many of his friends were a little better than him and (some not as good) he did manage to have 4 hole-in-ones and one 300 game (he cherishes his 300 Ring). He also enjoyed playing dominos. He would play a game of "42" with a group of friends and enjoyed spending time with his church family playing 42 on Sundays. 

He knew a lot about both sports (i.e. he could talk the talk and walk the walk and truly loved the many friends he made). Besides his 300 game and 4 holes-in-one, there was one other stroke of sporting luck in his life - He filled out a Keno ticket in Las Vegas while standing in line for a variety show and won $5,000.00.

As a child he delivered circulars, worked as a clerk in a 7-11 Convenient Store and worked for Western Auto in LaMarque, Tx.

He started working for Monsanto Chemical Company in 1965 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. He served his country during the Vietnam Era and received the Army Commendation Medal before his Honorable Discharge in 1968. He returned to Monsanto in 1968. During his 35 years with Monsanto he worked as an Operator, Maintenance Technician, Equipment Operator and coordinated shutdowns using a computer program called Primavera. He retired from Monsanto/Solutia in 1999 after 35 years of service. His work life was not over. After completing all the honey dew projects that his wife had waiting for him, he re-entered the work life. He worked for BP/Amoco using the Primavera program for a couple of years and then went to work for TCISD in the Transportation Department, driving a bus to transport Special Education kids to and from school. He proudly proclaimed that it was the highest paying job he ever had. (He said many times that you get something back from working other than a paycheck and working with those kids was it.)

Stan met his wife, Caroline, at the Texas City Bowling Alley and was married for 45 years. They had two wonderful children Corbin and Lindsey. They enjoyed the kids’ playing sports and the school activities they participated in. But their most enjoyable outings were the family trip to Hawaii and the many Ski trips they took with their children and grandchildren to places like Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Lake Tahoe. Once the kids left the nest Stan and Caroline took several cruises and a trip overseas to Germany visiting the many Lutheran Churches there (Martin Luther Tour). Their most enjoyable cruise was the two-week Alaskan cruise. Also, as competitive bowlers Stan and Caroline participated in many State and National Bowling Tournaments throughout the state. They were great outings that they enjoyed together. 

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, William G. Ivey and Sadie Evelyn Ivey; sister-n-law, Sandra Leigh Ivey; one granddaughter, Carli Janee Vela, and his stepfather, Leonard L Copple. He is survived by his wife, Caroline; brother, William G Ivey Jr; son, Corbin (Jennifer); daughter, Lindsey (Juan) and 10 grandchildren Trey, Taylor, Trenton, Riley, Cameron, Kinley, Audrey, Sirena, Shia, and Shayden and great granddaughter, Tinley Mae.

Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024 with a visitation from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Tx.
