James "Jim" Nelson, 71, of Deer Park, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 4, 2026. He was born on April 27, 1954, in Chicago, IL, to the late Lawrence and Elaine Nelson.
Jim was a talented mechanical engineer who demonstrated his entrepreneurship and dedication by running his own company for many years. He was a true outdoorsman who looked forward to fishing trips, with a particular fondness for the waters of Canada. An avid dog lover, he spent much of his time training and bonding with his canine companions.
Jim was the family’s favorite barbecue chef and was most recently defined by the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was best known for his goofy personality, always ensuring those around him were laughing.
Jim will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Cindy; his sons, Scott (Katie) Nelson and Andrew (Liz) Nelson; and his sister, Joyce Andalina. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Timothy, Lincoln, Riley, Harper, and Kit.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held privately for the family at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
