Jim was born to Loran and Mary Wilma (Duncan) Picolet on May 10, 1944 in Frankfort.  He attended school in Frankfort.  On January 8, 1977, he was united in marriage to Connie Kay Hale in Frankfort.

Jim worked four years for Marshall County on the road and bridge crew and twenty-six years for the city of Frankfort, retiring as a supervisor.  He did logging off and on and hay hauling.  Jim spent fifteen years in the Carpenters Union Local 918 from Manhattan and was a construction carpenter on several sites on the Kansas State Campus.

Jim played in various country bands throughout the years, including the “Country Picks” a family band, and loved to dance.  He volunteered for the Frankfort Fire Department and served as Fire Chief from 1983-1989.  He started FFD Dirt and Mud Drags, along with the Frankfort Music in the Park.  He enjoyed drag racing and tinkering in his shop.

Most of all he loved his wife and children.  Family was important to him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Dean Picolet, Dale Picolet, Marvin Picolet, Merle Picolet; and sisters, Betty Hodgins and Dorothy Simons.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; sons, John Picolet, Frankfort, Travis Picolet, Kansas City, MO, Kevin (Jona) Picolet, Everett, WA; sisters, Darlene Nemechek, Fall City, NE, and Judy Fleeker, Manhattan, KS; sister-in-law, Becky Picolet, Alma, KS, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund is established to be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort.
