James "Jimmy" Abraham Boyd

James “Jimmy” Abraham Boyd age 78 of Ferrum went to be with The Lord on July 20, 2025 with his family by his side. Jimmy owned and operated Boyd’s Body Shop for many years. His love of music led him to co-founding the old-time band The Dry Hill Draggers in the late 70’s. His experience making moonshine led to giving his expertise at the still site of many Ferrum Folklife Festivals. He was a storyteller like no other and always drew a crowd around him with his laughter and stories. He had a heart for helping others and a kindness unmatched. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He was born on August 20, 1946 to the late John & Dorothy Boyd. He was also preceded in death by a brother Billy Boyd and three sisters, Mary, Gracie & Ilene and a son Dale Hodges. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Rachel Boyd, his children, Peggy Boston, Mary Altice (Ruben), Tracy Gonzalez, Stacy Boyd (Vickie), Becky Smith (Steve), Deborah Hodges (Ricky), Chelsea Furrow (Mike), Jamie Boyd (Crystal), Crystal Collins (Mark). Jimmy had 28 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. Jimmy had many he thought of like children who were very special to him, Chris Prillaman, Johnny Gonzalez and Stevie Scott. Surviving siblings are Guerlain, Shirley, Rowena, Tony, Julie Ann, Nora Jane, and Judy. Jimmy had numerous close friends, nieces and nephews that he cherished.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2025 in the Boyd Family Cemetery on Griffith Road in Ferrum. His family will receive friends on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
