James Johnson Obituary
James Darrell Johnson, 79, of Snow Camp, passed Monday, September 29, 2025 at UNC Hillsborough Hospital. He was the son of the late Wayne Henry Johnson and Hilda Lindley Johnson.
Darrell was a native of Chatham County and a graduate of Southern Alamance High School class of 1964. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Center Methodist Church.
Darrell worked and owned a hosiery mill, managed Tar Hill Grocery on Highway 54, and retired from Davey Tree Service. His favorite color was Carolina blue and he loved the outdoors. He had Beagles, Pointer's and loved bird and rabbit hunting. He enjoyed hunting deer and loved fishing. He did not travel much but he loved to go to Topsail Beach and fish. He loved his inside dog Sadie, and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include son, Joseph Lee Johnson, Grandchildren Breyhauna Lee Johnson, Kelsie Johnson Agnew and her husband A.J. and Jordan Alyssa Johnson; great grandchildren, Colton Blake Agnew, Kamryn Ariah Kruthers, Stella Jo Agnew; brother, Larry Wayne Johnson; nephews, Barry Johnson and his wife Penny, Tony Johnson, and Keith Johnson; great nephew, Scott Johnson and wife Michelle, Kyle Johnson and wife Katie; and one great niece, Taylor Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Joseph Wayne "Joe-Joe" Johnson, twin brothers Donald Gene Johnson and Ronald Dean Johnson.
The funeral service will be Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 3:00pm at Center Methodist Church and the family will receive friends Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham. Burial will take place after the service in the church cemetery.
