James Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 19, 2025.
James Ernest Johnson, 88, entered eternal rest on October 16, 2025 peacefully at his home in St. Leonard, Maryland. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1937, he was the son of James C. Johnson and Eileen Mae Brown. He attended Saint Peter's School and Bishop John Carroll Catholic High School. He completed his schooling at Columbia Technical Institute. He was proud to have served two years in the U. S. Army and two years in the reserves. Subsequently, he was employed by General Heating and Engineering until 1995 when he started his own company, Johnson Air Parts and Service doing commercial HVAC projects throughout southern Maryland. Gifted with an aptitude for all things mechanical, there seemed to be nothing he could not "fix". In 1958, Jim married his beloved wife, Carolyn McKinney and they embarked on a journey that would last 67 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather always putting the needs of his family before his own. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing and camping always taking the family whenever possible. He and Carolyn also enjoyed many cruises and train travel, transversing the United States two times by Amtrak. He was a huge fan of NASCAR and the Washington Redskins. A member of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church for 40 years, his faith was paramount in his life. As a Dad and a Poppop, he was extremely proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren. His love was unconditional. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn; his sons, James Jr., (Tammy) and Robert David (Kristian); his daughters Michelle Scheidt (Jason), Sharon Smith (Martin), and 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Mackenzie, Rachel, Brooklyn, Zachary, Evan, Alex, Brianna, Devin, Cambrey and Charleigh.

He achieved what we all hope to achieve in this life……he made a difference.

Friends and family will gather at 10 a.m. at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church in Prince Frederick, MD to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
