Mr. James Melvin Jones, 79, of Cobb, GA, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ellaville, GA, with Rev. Jimmie Chapman officiating. Visitation will start one hour prior to service at 10:30am at the church.
Mr. Jones was born in Schley County, GA, on January 16, 1944, to Lewis Daniel Jones and Vernice James Jones. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was a retired maintenance foreman with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He also served in the National Guard for 6 years. Mr. Jones enjoyed farming and woodworking. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jason Jones and his brother, Elton Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Jones; son, Richard and Mollie Jones; daughter-in-law, April Jones; grandchildren, Destiny Jones, Axl Jones, Maddie Jones, Abbie Jones, Ava Jones, and Hannah Fields.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 38 Possum Trot Road, Ellaville, GA 31806.
