James Benny Kapla joined his wife, Sandra, in Heaven on May 13, 2024, with his son and daughter at his side. The son of Stanley and Florence (Hylok) Kapla was born on October 28, 1939, in Green Bay.
Jim grew up in both the Pulaski and Seymour areas and attended Seymour High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge from the USMC, he reenlisted in the US Army and served as an MP.
On September 25, 1963, he married Sandra Alice Sawicki at St. Stanislaus Church in Hofa Park. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2019. Jim worked at Packerland Packing, now JBS for over 50 years working his way up and eventually becoming the plant manager in Chippewa Falls.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting, especially deer hunting. He loved watching Polka, Polka, Polka on Sunday mornings and was known to play the "air" concertina.
Survivors include a daughter, Roxane (Scott) Cagle, Green Bay; son, Doug (Terri) Kapla, Pulaski; his grandchildren: Lance Kapla (fiancé, Anna Schmidtke), Merrill, Samantha Kapla (fiancée, Michael Matz), Green Bay; two brothers: Tom (Sue) Kapla, Sobieski, and Pat (Shirley) Kapla, Crandon; two sisters: Betty (Dave) Schultz, Sobieski, and Vernie (Rick) Damp, Shawano; a sister-in-law, Diane Arendt, St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, and parents, Stanley and Florence, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stanley and Esther Sawicki; three brothers: Bob, Ben and Stanley Jr.; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Paul and Aural Andrews and Don Arendt; a niece, DaNelle Hocking; nephew, Donald Arendt Jr.; great niece, Dana Kapla; and a niece-in-law, Sandi Andrews.
Friends are invited to gather with family at St. Stanislaus Church, W1888 Hofa Park Rd., Seymour, on Thursday, May 23, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Esser, OFM presiding. Burial and military honors rendered by the Pulaski Area Veterans will follow in the parish cemetery.
The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent.
The family would like to thank Kris Miller and Terry at the VA who helped Jim with dialysis. They would also like to thank Tiffany, Hayley, and Pam and the rest of the staff at Green Bay Health Center who were so very helpful. Jim always looked forward to visits from staff member Molly who was always so nice to him. Finally, a special thank you to Mel and the staff at DaVita Titletown.
