James Kennedy Obituary

James Kennedy, age 98, passed away in Crown Point Indiana on January 23, 2025 following a brief period of illness.
James was born on February 5, 1926 to Thomas and Anne Kennedy. James grew up as one of five children and spent his childhood growing up in Hammond, Independence Hill and Crown Point, Indiana. He attended St Mary's grade school and went to Catholic Central High School. He was in the Navy during WWII stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base and in California. He served on a troop transport ship in the Pacific.
He worked for and with Standard oil in several capacities until his retirement. James and his wife Lyra were married on January 26, 1952 and were the proud parents of six children. James loved to travel with family and family gatherings were his great joy. He was known for his wonderful story telling and generosity. He was a member of American Legion and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid sports fan following the Bears, the Bulls, the Cubs and Notre Dame Football.
James is survived by his 6 children: Patricia (James) Fifield of Scottsdale, AZ, Sue Honsa of Rock Island ,IL, Linda Viers of Crown Point, James H. Kennedy Jr, of Crown Point, Laura (Jeff) Kuzma of Crown Point, Paula(John) Lohman of South Bend, IN; Grandchildren: Benjamin Fifield, Katie (Anne) Fifield, James C. Fifield, Sean Fengya, Shannon Honsa, Charles Kuzma, Kevin Kuzma, Chelsea (Taylor) Baran, Dr. Lauren Kennedy; Great Grandchildren: Kennedy, Rose, Liam, Grace, Clark, Eleanor, Eugene, Vivian, Adelynn, Cole, Edward, Sibling: Maryanna Lewis: Sister in Laws: Joan Polzin, Janis (Jon) Hendrix.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Lyra; son, Joseph; his son in laws: Cole Viers, Tom Honsa; and his siblings: Thomas, William, Jack and Richard Kennedy.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 2:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service 4:00 pm with Deacon Brian Nosbusch officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Crown Point Community Foundation. 115 S Court St, Crown Point, IN 46307.
