James Kirk Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 17, 2024.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James Robert Kirk, also known as Shorty, Captain Kirk, Jim, and Jimbo. He passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, at 7:15 PM in San Angelo, TX, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 63 years old.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Sterling. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shelia Kirk, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage; his sisters, Debra Ruth and Sue Bjorklund; his aunt and uncle, John and Linda Chism; his five children, James Kirk Jr. (Brantley), Kelly Pouncy, Haven Fitts (Joshua), Stormy Long (Tanner), and Dacota Wylie (Sean); and his 12 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18th, at 6:00 PM in Miles, Texas, at 113 FM 1692, Miles, Texas 76861.
James was not just a strong man in body, but a pillar of resilience. He enjoyed drawing, spending quality time with his children, and building things. A genuine lover of old trucks, he dedicated weekends and evenings to repairs and modifications, viewing his vehicle as a labor of love.
An amazing carpenter and true craftsman, James transformed raw materials into stunning works of art. His tough exterior often masked a depth of character that few were privileged to see. With a commanding demeanor and a voice that resonated authority, he faced confrontation head-on. Yet beneath that formidable surface lay a caring heart, expressing love in his own unique way.
In a world that often favors gentleness, James stood as a reminder that strength can coexist with kindness. He found beauty in the little things and spoke his mind with refreshing clarity
and honesty. While he may not have sought the spotlight, his steady presence served as an anchor, reminding us that the most meaningful lives are often lived simply and sincerely.
His legacy is one of authenticity, and he will be remembered for his ability to communicate with honesty and grace.
Rest in peace, dear father, husband, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. You will be missed so deeply, but never forgotten.
