James R. Kiser, a dedicated family man and esteemed member of the oil field community, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Hendrick Hospice. He was born on November 11, 1943, in Sweetwater, Texas, and devoted much of his life to a career in the oil field, a profession he embraced for an impressive 40 years. James could be found outside gardening and woodworking. He also had a gift to be able to fix anything that was broken. He also loved to hunt and fish. But his greatest enjoyment and love was his grandkids and great grandkids!
James will be dearly remembered for his deep love for his family. He married Velta Hastings on August 24, 1962, in Hamlin, Texas. Together, they shared sixty years of a life filled with love and cherished memories until her passing. James is survived by his son, James R. Kiser II (Robby) and his spouse, Heather; daughter Melissa Kiser Lee and her spouse, Bobby; and son-in-law David Byerly. He leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Megan Hays, Sarah Moore, Brandon Lee, Jacob Byerly, Will Kiser and Weston Kiser, and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving James are five siblings.
In addition to his immediate family, James was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Velta Kiser; his daughter, Tricia Kiser Byerly; his father, Cecil Coy Kiser; his mother, Jean Perkins Kiser; and two sisters and one brother, who all held a special place in his life and memories.
James's life will be celebrated with a visitation at 1:00 P.M. followed by a funeral service on December 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Church of Christ, located at 15 SW Ave A in Hamlin, Texas. Interment will be at Neinda Cemetery following the service, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home of Hamlin, Texas.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and hard work will continue to inspire his family and friends for years to come.
