James Ledford Obituary

James Walter Ledford, 85, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. James was a carpenter and built several houses in Clay County, Towns County, Ga. and the Bear Paw community. He was of the Baptist faith and firm believer and follower of his Lord and Savior. James loved to hunt and was an avid hog hunter. His greatest love was to spend time with his family, pickin' and grinnin' and his grandsons were his pride and joy. James was the rock of his family.
He was the son of the late Milton and Lillie Ledford. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Veta Mae; and six brothers, Rit, Lloyd, Johnny, Kiffer, Junior "Tootie" and Raymond.
Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Annie Mae Ledford; three daughters, Patty Swanson and husband, Melvin, Pam Hyatt and husband, Wayne, and Sonya McCulloch and husband, Chris, all of Hayesville; six grandchildren, Lee and Ray Swanson, Bryce Moody, Jordan and Dakota Hyatt and Colby McCulloch; a sister, Glenda Garrett, of Hayesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating. The interment was in Sycamore Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Swanson, Bryce Moody, Jordan and Dakota Hyatt, Colby McCulloch and Billy Garrett. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Swanson, Wayne Hyatt, Chris McCulloch, Eugene Freeman, Enoch Ledford, Terry Woody, Bobbie Ledford, Alvin Maney and Joe Shook.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
