James Levien Obituary

Visit the Schmidt Funeral Home - Grand Parkway - Katy website to view the full obituary.
James "Jim" Michael Levien was born on November 20, 1948, in Houston, Texas, to James and Ada Levien. He passed away on February 23, 2026, in Katy, Texas.

Jim grew up in Houston alongside his twin sisters, who idolized their big brother and loved tagging along wherever he went. As a boy, he spent his days playing Little League baseball, fishing with his dad, and soaking up the simple joys of childhood. He attended Milby High School, where he was well known and well liked, graduating with the Class of 1967.

A true Houstonian at heart, Jim carried his love for his hometown throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the Houston Texans and the Houston Astros, but his loyalty ran deepest for the late Houston Oilers. Win or lose, he stood by his teams.

In his younger years, Jim loved surfing and anything that brought him close to the beach. He formed lifelong friendships with his surfing buddies, who will miss him dearly. The sound of the waves and the salt air were among his favorite comforts. He also found peace in fishing and joy behind a grill, where he proudly served as the family's grill master, passing down his skills and secrets to his son and ensuring the tradition would live on.

Jim was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it mattered. He had a heart bigger than Texas and was known for his generosity, easygoing nature, and laid-back spirit. He could also be stubborn as a mule, a trait his family knew well, but it was simply part of what made him Jim.

He is survived by his son, Blake Levien and his wife, Kristina; his son, Michael Levien and his wife, Ginger; and his daughter, Amy Kalinova and her husband, Kamen; his sister, Pat Rogers and her husband, Paul; and his sister, Paula Levien and her wife, Susan. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ada Levien.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.
