James R. Lindon, recently of Downers Grove, IL former longtime Hinsdale resident, passed away on November 9, 2024. He was a loving husband of Linda Lindon, devoted father of Sara Doran, and half brother of Susan Lambrecht Franke.
Jim was born in Chicago and spent his later childhood and adolescence in Hinsdale, IL where he attended local public schools. After high school, Jim graduated from Illinois State University in 1958 where he majored in English and history. He taught both disciplines during his career at Hinsdale Central High School and earned a M.A. degree in writing from DePaul University in Chicago. Rhetoric, exposition, argumentation and research were a rewarding teaching focus, along with tutoring small groups of students in Central's Writing Center to hone their skills. He also started a Mock Trial team that won second place in the State which was a special honor as well as being named Who's Who Among America's Teachers for teaching excellence.
Outside interests fulfilled Jim's creative side such as woodworking where he focused on classical moldings, small furniture making, restoring and building clock cases and painted and etched illustrations. Another passion was voice acting as a member of Chuck Shaden's Old Time Radio Players who performed at community organizations and at the Museum of Broadcast Communications.
Jim loved nature, and his favorite sport was fly fishing closer to home on the Au Sable River in Michigan and casting into the rifles of classic western mountain headwaters.
Such a person as Jim with many talents is often referred to as a "Renaissance Man." He has left a significant impression and caring memory on many.
A Memorial Service is Saturday November 23 at 11:00am at Community Presbyterian Church, 39 N. Prospect Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Natural Resources Defense Council: NRDC.ORG/GIVE, Trout Unlimited, Community Presbyterian Church's Legacy Endowment Fund

I had Jim for an English teacher my junior year at Hinsdale Central. He was one to my favorite teachers. He also knew my Mother, Nancy Denekas who taught at Hinsdale Central. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Lindon was my English teacher in 1973/1974, and was one of the best teachers I had. He taught me how to think, and I wanted to do well because of him. I remember his impressive mustache, his three-piece suits, and his use of the word "underscore" rather than "underline." He led us through Steinbeck's _The Grapes of Wrath_ in such a way that Steinbeck is still my favorite author, and that book is still my favorite read. My deepest sympathies to his family. His love of literature and writing lives on in each of us.

I was lucky to have been one of Mr. Lindon“s classes in the early 1980s. He was not only a brilliant teacher, but he had a wicked sense of humor. I remember when he was talking about Puritanism. He said, "This is how most people kill a bug," and he mimicked stamping a bug on the floor. "Now this is how a Puritan does it," and he slid his foot with added emphisis. And he would add a sly smile. What a wonderful man! May his memory be eternal. Christopher Lynch.
