James W. Lockwood, 66, a resident of Amherst, NH died on July 9, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH after a sudden medical event at his home.
He was born in 1955, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Raymond and Lucy Lockwood. He spent his youth growing up Air Force bases around the world from Japan to Germany to Maine and finally to Florida at Eglin Air Force Base. He graduated from University of West Florida with a degree in Physics and received a master's degree in Applied Physics from Georgia Tech University. Jim married Katherine in 1981 and moved to California to work at TRW. The family moved to New Hampshire in 1988 and have made their home in Amherst where Jim worked at Sanders (BAE systems) until retirement when he began teaching physics at Nashua Community College. He was a 32-year volunteer with the Amherst Fire Department and had spent many years working on the ambulance. He had been a CPR instructor since 1970 and had a deep commitment to community service, which began in his youth. He volunteered at the Vietnamese relocation center in high school and taught Red Cross classes in swimming and lifesaving. He was an explorer scout and enjoyed camping and hiking with his son's scout troop. Recently he had volunteered at state vaccination centers. He continued to teach CPR throughout New Hampshire. Jim was a lover of the outdoors, an avid hiker and bicyclist who enjoyed the white mountains and hiking in Colorado.
Jim is survived by his wife, Katherine, his children, Meredith of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Andrew and his wife, Mariana and son, Theodore, of Newark, Delaware. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond and his family of Panama City, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or New Hampshire Public Radio would be appreciated.
Services: in accordance with his wishes there will be no calling hours. A Liturgy of the Word funeral will be held on July 30, 2022, at 11:00am in the Saint Patrick's Parish, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH 03055. Burial will be private for the family.

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I am sorry we can't be there for the service. We'll miss the fun times we had together. It was always good to share a laugh. I miss our family holidays.

Katherine- I am so sorry for your loss of Jim. I remember both of you as so full of life and hospitality and laughter while we were in grad school at UCLA. You are all in my prayers and thoughts.

During my visit to your home, Jim was so welcoming and excited to share the wonders of your city. My favorite memory is sharing a meal with the family and seeing how much love you all shared for each other. Oh, and the vineyard... so sorry for your loss
