James M. Louks, age 69, of Owatonna, MN, passed away December 11, 2024, at Owatonna Hospital following a two-year battle with prostate and esophageal cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd, Owatonna) on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM, followed by the service starting at 2:00 PM. Following the service, all are invited to fellowship in the Brick-Meger Reception Center.
James Louks was born at Fort Leavenworth Military Hospital (Leavenworth, KS) on January 12, 1955. He later moved to Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1973. After high school, he attended Rochester Community College. On June 30, 1973, he married Karen Butler, and together they raised Matthew, Jamie, and Shawn. James worked at Piggly Wiggly, the Owatonna Elevator, and alongside his father and brother for over 50 years in the telecommunications industry.
James was known for loving his family; most specially, his seven granddaughters. Their visits, conversations, and extracurricular activities were his favorite times. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, photography, bird watching, camping, and traveling throughout his life. Many fond memories were made with family and friends at the cabin on Lake Miltona. He was also an avid fan of the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers. He was a Boy Scout, and a former member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen; children: Matthew (Julie) Louks of Virginia, MN, Jamie Louks of Owatonna, and Shawn (Sabrina) Louks of Owatonna; seven granddaughters: Marian, Christina, Kathryn, Kiana, Lilly, Olivia, and Harper; his mother, Arlene Louks of Owatonna; siblings: Bruce (Mary) Louks, Mick (Jean) Louks, and Teresa (Brad Burly) Louks, all of Owatonna; as well as many relatives, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Louks, in-laws, grandparents, a brother-in-law, a niece, and a nephew.
