James Ralph Mannerud passed away Sunday November 23, 2025 in Brookings, SD. Services for James are pending. Please check back soon for updated service details.

James was born February 20, 1943 in Sibley, IA to Ralph and Ethel (Ross) Mannerud. He grew up in Brookings, SD and graduated from Brookings High School in 1961. He attended South Dakota State University and then served with the South Dakota National Guard.

He joined his father and uncle, Erwin Mannerud, with the family owned road construction company of Mannerud Construction. He married Charleen Finck and they had a son, Micheal Allen, born in 1967. He then met and married Linda Oines in Bruce, SD on November 27, 1971.

In 1979, Mannerud Construction was sold and Jim, Linda, & Mike moved to an acreage north of Brookings. Jim and Linda made that their home for 39 years. During that time, Jim began a 2nd career as a New York Life agent.

Jim enjoyed many years of league bowling and golfing. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman. His fishing trips to Canada were some of his best memories. He also was a huge SDSU and Vikings fan.

He suffered a debilitating stroke in September of 2012 which necessitated the eventual move to Brookings in 2018. Jim passed at the Neighborhoods at Brookview on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the age of 82 years and 9 months.

Jim was a lifetime member at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. He was a member of the Brookings Elks Club, Post 200 of the American Legion in Bruce, and an honoree of the Brookings Bowlers Hall of Fame; bowling 35 years in national tournaments.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda, and his son, Michael, of Brookings. He is also survived by his sister-in laws, Pat Moe, Judy (Dan) Norman, brother-in-law, Ray Oines, along with his aunt, Peggy (Pat) Vaughan, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, grand-parents, and brother-in-law, Bill Moe.
