James “Jim” I. Matt, age 92, of Oxford, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at his home. Jim was born in Milwaukee on September 17, 1933 to John and Loretta (Roller) Matt. He was raised in Milwaukee and graduated Pius High School in 1953. Jim entered the Navy and later joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 21 years. He married Auguste Jordan in Wiesbaden, Germany on March 23, 1957 and together they were blessed with three children.
Jim and Auguste moved many times following Jim’s military career. They returned to Milwaukee in 1975 and relocated to Oxford in 1990. Jim was an avid photographer, fisherman and woodworker; also he enjoyed working with computers. Jim will be remembered for his love of music.
Jim is survived by his wife, Auguste, of almost 69 years and three children: Elizabeth Strickland of Packwaukee, James Jr. (Christine) of Rhinelander, and John of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Elizabeth (Zane), Sarah (Adrian) and Andrew (Rachel) as well as three great-grandchildren: Mea, Riley, and Nova. Jim is further survived by his sisters-in-law: Shirley Matt and Sharon Bayless.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: John (Jane), Betty (Robert) Kaiser, Thomas, Robert (Ginney) and Richard.
Jim will be laid to rest with private services and full military honors are Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Packwaukee.
