JAMES McCALL

James McCall, age 71, passed away on February 3rd, 2026. James was the youngest child of Alonzo and Bessie (Coe) McCall. He is preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. He was uncle to many and enjoyed keeping up with the family with phone calls to his nephew Raymell Taylor. James was born in Cleveland. He lived much of his life in Applecreek and then Warrensville Developmental Centers. In 2012 James moved to a home he shared with three other men in Solon and more recently in Westlake. James was very proud, and protective, of his space. He became friends with the men he lived with but also liked time alone in his room and sitting on the deck. James has been happily retired and enjoyed attending the Welcome House Community Center. James liked doing all kinds of arts and crafts. He liked to create colorful pictures to hang up for every holiday and season. It meant a lot that the Direct Support staff would also color pictures for him. James liked celebrating holidays and attending parties. He liked spending time playing table games with friends and staff and was known to cheat occasionally to make things interesting. He also enjoyed singing karaoke.His cool dude persona completely masked the times he was off key. James was always quick to help out whenever he could and defined "friendly." He will be missed by his family and many friends and staff at Welcome House.

A memorial service for James will be held on Tuesday, 2/17/26 at 5:00 PM at the Welcome House Community Center, 25089 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake, 44145.
