James Steven McCready, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, in the warmth of his home in Buda, Texas. Born on October 9, 1941, in Houston, Texas, Steve's life was marked by a deep intelligence, unwavering faith, and an adventurous spirit that touched all who knew him.

Steve's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of 57 years, JoAnn McCready, whose partnership was the cornerstone of a vibrant family life. Together, they raised a family that included their son, Steven McCready and his wife Shele Reynolds McCready, and were blessed to watch their love grow through their granddaughter, Gillian McCready. Though preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Susan Barnes, Steve's legacy of love and strength lives on through his son-in-law, Robert Barnes, and the memories they all hold dear.

A proud graduate of Clover Park High School's Class of 1959, Steve's commitment to excellence continued throughout his professional life. He dedicated 26 years to Burroughs as a Field Engineer, where his work repairing large computer systems was not just a job but a passion. In 1994, he brought his expertise to McKesson Pharmaceuticals, providing IT support until his retirement in 2003. Steve's professional associations and contributions to the field of technology were highly regarded by his peers and appreciated by all who worked alongside him.

Steve's faith was integral to who he was, guiding him as a devout Catholic who lived his beliefs through acts of kindness and a steadfast moral compass. His commitment to his faith was evident to all who met him and served as a source of comfort and inspiration throughout his life.

Gifted with a zest for life and an array of interests, Steve found joy in the simple pleasures. He was a regular at the Onion Creek and Kyle Senior Centers, where he enjoyed playing bridge once or twice a week. A true sports enthusiast, Steve cherished attending sporting events with his son, reveling in the camaraderie and excitement of the game. With JoAnn by his side, he traveled both domestically and internationally, embracing new cultures and experiences with an open heart and mind. Steve also found happiness in dancing, fishing, immersing himself in computer games, and losing himself in the pages of a good book.

Those who knew Steve would describe him as not only intelligent and faith-filled but also as genuinely all around good man. His was a life lived with purpose and passion, with an enduring curiosity that drove him to explore, learn, and engage with the world around him.

James Steven McCready's life was a tapestry of devotion, curiosity, and joy. As we remember Steve, we celebrate a man who was a beacon of light and love, and whose spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his influence will resonate for generations to come.
