James McCune Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of the Carolinas & Capital Funeral Home - Raleigh on Jan. 6, 2026.
James Clyde McCune passed away on December 23, 2025, at the age of 66.
James was born in Ohio and grew up in Buffalo, New York, experiences that shaped his grit, humor, and straightforward way of seeing the world. For the last 30 years, Raleigh, North Carolina was his home-a place where he built a life, routines, friendships, and a sense of familiarity that brought him comfort.
James was the son of Phyllis Juliano (née Cornelius), who preceded him in death. She was the center of his world, and her strength, determination, and love left a lasting imprint on him. Any good found in James began with her.
In addition to his mother, James is preceded in death by his sister Jo Ann Kunkel. He also had several step, half, and extended siblings who were part of his life and story.
James was a father first and foremost, and is survived by his children and their families, Laura McCune and her partner Jordan Roettele, Liana McCune and her child Legend Rivera. Dyanna Harmon (née Slingerland) and her husband Roger Harmon, and their children Aaron Harmon and Emilea Harmon. Also, Dakota Jenkins and Danika Jenkins held a special place in his life and were loved, included, and cherished as grandchildren in every way. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Leishman, Grace Geer, Phylis Haas, and John McCune. James was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, including Billy McCune and Michael McCune, and he cared for them in his own steady, understated way. He also had several step, half, and extended siblings who were part of his life and story.
Those closest to James knew his loyalty ran deep. He shared a meaningful bond with his best friend and roommate, Dave DeRosier, whose presence brought companionship, familiarity, and comfort. James is also remembered with affection by close family friends Tyler Willis, Michelle, and Griffin, who were part of the chosen family he built along the way.
James was not a man of grand gestures, but of consistency-showing up, holding his ground, and caring in quiet, lasting ways. He will be remembered for his resilience, his love for his family, and the space he made for others simply by being himself.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Though I will miss my brother I know he will always be there. His energy has become a part of my life that I will always carry till we meet on the other side. He has given me wisdom, purpose and direction to continue down the path we both traveled together. I will do my best to make you proud while you are looking down upon us. Your soul is free to soar with your fathers......
