James McDonough Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Texarkana Funeral Home - Arkansas - Texarkana on Feb. 9, 2026.
James Lynn McDonough, age 84, passed away on February 8, 2026, at his residence.

James was born on September 13, 1941, in Clarksville, Texas to his parents, John and Sarah Kathleen McDonough. James was a devoted man of faith, family, and service, whose life reflected a deep love for God and for others. He was a proud and faithful member of Mandeville Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. His church was very important to him, and he took great pride in being part of its ministry.

James honorably served his country in the United States Navy and later continued his commitment to service through the Texas State Guard. He carried that same spirit of dedication into civilian life, volunteering his time with Camp Canfield and serving with disaster relief; he was always willing to step in and help those in need.

Above all else, James loved his family. He cherished time spent with them and found joy in the simple blessings of life, including gardening and taking care of Millie, Carol's dog. He was a great host, always offering "full blowed" Cokes and "the spread" and ice creams. He was always "fair in the midline" for an old man and often reminded others, "Don't let these clothes fool you." He also cherished time spent with special friends, Johnny and Paula Jones and Shaun and Connie King.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Carol A. McDonough; his parents, John and Sarah Kathleen McDonough; brothers, Carroll G. McDonough and John T. McDonough; and his grandson, Zackary McDonough.

He is survived by his children, John E. McDonough of Texarkana, AR, Lynn R. Capps (Michael) of Texarkana, AR, Barbara J. Olsen (Justin) of Guyton, GA, and Brenda S. Reed (Tim) of Ashdown, AR; grandchildren, Johnathan McDonough, Allison Capps Lenderman (John), Brisco Olsen (Madison), Tabitha Olsen, Delmer Olsen, Sadie East (Baylor), Ty Reed, Kacelynn Reed; great-grandchildren, Jaidin McDonough, Barrett East, and Jackson Lenderman; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in the chapel of Texarkana Funeral Home - Arkansas with Bro. Johnny Jones officiating.
