Uncle Jimmy,
I will always remember your smile, your laugh, your stories and your big heart. When my dad passed in 1997, you were sure to let me know that if I needed anything, all I had to do was call you - that meant so much. Despite the teasing and good-natured bickering between you and your siblings, it was clear that everyone looked up to you. You were loved and you will be missed.
Love,
Kevin Mayfield

Dear Uncle Jimmy,
There was always such big laughs when you were around! I loved fishing on the lake! I loved sitting with you on the deck and talking just about anything that was going on. You were a true conversationalist and I was always interested in your perspective on things. You meant so much to our entire family and your presence will be greatly missed. I love you and know that now you´re at peace and in heaven.
With much love,
Jeff Morris

Jim,
I always looked up to you! My big brother who was always there to protect us and watch out for all of us. Always caring and kind and knowledgeable about so many things. There are just so many memories I´ve been reminded of and sifting through, and you will always be my big brother who I loved so much. I will never forget you. Your laugh, your smile, your charm. Your cheerful presence was infectious. There´s definitely a void I feel without you, but I know you´re still watching over us all. You´re with God now and at peace now and I feel at peace knowing that.
Love you,
Peggy

To my beloved brother James (Jimmy) McDowell.
We miss you so much . Just as we got back together in the same state of Michigan, the Lord called you home to be with him in his heavenly realm where I am so happy that you are and we will see you again when we arrive there not by our good works but by the grace of God, and in the name of his son, Jesus Christ.
Until then lots of love, your sister, Lois Mayfield

Jimmie and Tommy,
"Today if full of memories
of both my Brothers laid to rest,
and every single one of them
is filled with happiness.
For you both were someone special,
always such a joy to know
and there was so much pain
when it was time to let the both of you go.
That's why this special message
is sent to Heaven above
for the angels to take care of you
and give you all my love."
We miss you dearly every day, and all the memories that we shared. We were truly gifted that our mom raised us to stay close to one another, and she would be so proud that her wishes came to life.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about the both of you!
You both have a special place in my heart, and I know one day we will all be together again.

Uncle Jim,
Had I known that their was a legacy page in your name I would have posted a message in your honor 9 months ago. Thanks to your nephew Jason McDowell, he discovered it and let the family know!
To say the least, you and your siblings had a tough road ahead when you lost your father at the age of 7. Granny, your mother, was in a coma for quite sometime, but miraculously she pulled through. I can't even imagine her strength, courage and determination to raise 6 small children by herself, and you had become the "man" of the household at such a young age, a responsibility that only you could have accomplished.
When you were old enough and able, you became the "Santa Claus" to all of your younger siblings, making sure they had the beautiful Christmas that you always thought they deserved. That is only one of the several accomplishments you achieved in your lifetime.
At the age of 16, you were held in high honor by the president of the Vortex Club and was awarded an engraved watch for your heroic rescue when saving a friend that was drowning in the middle of Lake Leelanau. Your fearlessness and selflessness perfectly describe your personality and your golden heart.
I will always remember the family reunions held at your house, the football games we all participated in, and in fact, you were the first person to teach me how to fish on your lake. So many great memories!
I am so glad I was able to see you in the hospital before you passed. I don't care what anyone else's opinion is, because I know in my heart that you knew I was there, as you held my hand tight while we played some of your favorite songs.
I will always be proud of all of your achievements, and most of all, that I had an Uncle as special as you!
I will Love you always and forever,
Cheryl Tront

Dear Uncle Jimmy,
I´m so sad you aren´t with us anymore. Since you lived in a neighboring town growing up, we saw you frequently. My Dad would take us fishing on your lake. The summer barbecue you would have supplying all us kids with basically all the TownClub pop we could dream of in all the different flavors You were such a kind person and always genuinely interested in how everyone else was doing. I loved having conversations with you. You´re really going to be missed, but you will never, ever be forgotten!
Love, Tina

Uncle Jim I will miss you so very much. I have a ton of memories but the one that sticks out and you brought it up everytime I saw you was the walk around the lake. Jeff and myself and the kids also have wonderful memories of visiting you in north carolina. I love you and know you are at peace. Kristie
