James Michael McGarry, 77, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Helen (Moschitta) McGarry, passed away on November 3, 2025. Born on June 3, 1948 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Francis Xavier and Margaret (Purcell) McGarry.
Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and proud "Pop Pop" whose life was filled with faith, family, and kindness. A Long Island native, he grew up and raised his family there, deeply rooted in his community and his parish, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary in Roosevelt, where he was an active parishioner, a eucharistic minister, and a dedicated Knight of Columbus. A graduate of Adelphi University with his Master's Degree and an Assistant Vice President at JP Morgan Chase Bank, Jim was admired for his integrity, kindness, and hard work. He participated in many community outreach and volunteer clean up projects. After retiring, he moved to Connecticut to be closer to his beloved grandchildren, never missing a ceremony or event and always cheering them on at their sporting events with pride. A lifelong Mets fan, he was always happy to bring his family to Shea Stadium. Jim's warmth, humor, and gentle spirit touched everyone he met. He cherished traveling with his loving wife, especially to Atlantis in the Bahamas and Woodloch Pines in the Poconos. His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Kerin (Andrew) Jacob, and Jamie (Dan) O'Brien; his grandchildren, Andrew, Xavier, and Charlotte Jacob, and Maggie O'Brien; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marianne and Joe; his niece and nephew Stephen and Jessica. Jim will finally be reunited with the love of his life, Helen; his sisters, Pat and Jean; and his beloved cat, Eli.
