James Arthur McGorry Sr. ("Mugsy"), age 69, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 following a courageous battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was born January 11, 1956 in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. Jim was preceded in death by his father William McGorry Sr., mother Clare McGorry (nee Downey), brother Daniel McGorry, and sister-in-law Maryann McGorry (nee McDermott).
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susie McGorry (nee McGuigan), his sons James Jr. (Stephanie), Shaun (Heather), and three grandchildren Declan, Jordan, and Rian. Also survived by his brother William McGorry Jr., sister Clare Ariano (Nick), sister-in-law Dorothy McGorry (nee Howard), and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews who will sadly miss him.
During the late 1970s, Jim started his career in the box shop at the ITE Circuit Breaker Company. Later, Jim became a proud Local 30 Union member and retired after 36 years as working as a roofer.
As a sibling, Jim loved catching up with his Brother Billy and talking about both both the good old days and current news. With his Sister, Clare, Jim enjoyed a very special bond that transcended above and beyond the typical brother / sister relationship. Jim, Clare, and Billy were more than just siblings, they were the most trusted and closest of friends.
As a husband and father, Jim, was the fiercest protector, reliable provider, and caregiver to his wife and sons. Aside from roofing, Jim shoveled snow, sold Easter flowers, and did everything he could to ensure they had a stable home life, food on the table, and a Catholic education.
As a grandfather, Jim was the biggest fan of his grandchildren. Whether it was a baseball game, cheerleading competition, or karate tournament, Pop was there with a smile letting them all know they did a great job.
Jim loved getting together with family and friends. Whether it was Aunt Clare's regular picnics, annual vacations to Wildwood, holidays, or any other get together, Jim's infectious laughter could be heard. Jim loved barbecues and his grilled potatoes have become legendary in the family.
Jim had a huge heart and would not think twice about doing a favor for someone. He would literally give you the shirt off his back to know his family and friends were taken care of. Jim was loved by many, will be forever missed, and never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to his Viewing at Dinan's Funeral Home (1923 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA, 19130) on Saturday, March 15, 2025, 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church (2319 Green St., Philadelphia, PA, 19130). Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Dad , they say there is a reason , they say time will heal . Neither time nor reason . Will change the way I feel . Gone are the days we use to share , but in my heart You are always there. The gates of memories will never close . I miss you more than anybody knows. I´ll love and miss you everyday , till we meet again . I´m glad you´re not suffering anymore . Love Always , your son Jimmy ....
