James Albert McGowan was born on February 19th, 1968, in Athens, Tennessee. He died in his home on August 10th, 2025, in Riceville, Tennessee.

He was a man of many jokes. His connection with God was inseparable. He loved God dearly. James was the type of man who would help you any way he could. He had a heart full of love and empathy.

He was the son of the late Alton Eugene and Mary Estelle Verner McGowan and was preceded in death by a brother Robert McGowan and sister Lisa McGowan.

Survivors include three brothers and three sister in laws Rockie & Samantha McGowan of Riceville, TN, Danny and Michelle Hall of Ellijay, GA, Luke and Deb Hall of Farner.

Three sisters and two brother in laws, Kimblee Arp of Athens, TN, Annette and Bit Ledford of NC, Sue and Read Nichols of Ellijay, GA. Sister in law Carla Webb, nieces and nephews DJ Arp, David Arp, Lucas McGowan, Matthew McGowan, Rune McGowan, Roxann Arnwine, Lisa Wilcox, Devan Groce, Barbara McGowan and several other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Ziegler Funeral Home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow funeral services at Riceville Cemetery.

DJ Arp, David Arp, Matthew McGowan, KeyShawn Robinson, Pooh Arnwine, Ezekiel Jones, Steven Groce, and Jatraeus Arnwine will serve as pallbearers.
