James Robert McNew (Rob/ PopPop) 56 of Davy, WV passed away October 4, 2025 in Tazewell, VA. Born July 28, 1969 he was the son of James (Jimmy) Alex McNew Jr and wife Shirley White of GA and the late Mary Stanley and Amon Stanley. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Carlos and Betty Bradford, paternal grandparents James Alex McNew Sr and Hazel McNew, his uncle's Bob Bradford and Jack Bradford, Aunt Barbara Tuttle, cousins Kelly Wells, Chuck Gentry and Harley Gentry and father-in-law Robert Rose.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years Tammy McNew of Davy, WV daughter Gabriella McNew and Walter Reed Jr of Bristol, TN granddaughter Amurianna Reed and another grandbaby due in December. His brothers Justin McNew and wife Natalia of Georgia, Amon Stanley Jr and wife Amanda of Beckley, WV nephews Tyler Shrewsberry, Eli Stanley, Aiden and Caleb McNew, nieces Rhonda (Lucas) Shrewsberry, Abby Stanley and Kaylee Rose and Kehlani Lane, mother-in-law Glena Rose, sister-in-law Tanya Rose, his best friend Adam Wesley, many cousins, friends and coworkers.
Rob was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, a 1987 graduate of Mt. View High School. He was a welder, fabricator and heavy equipment operator by trade. He was currently employed by Bluestone Resources. Rob enjoyed playing the guitar, camping and riding his motorcycle. He was an outgoing person who could make anyone laugh, which he enjoyed. Most importantly he loved being a PopPop. Rob had gave his life to the Lord and was baptized.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
His funeral will be held Saturday October 11, 2025, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell at 2:00PM with the visitation being from 1:00PM to 2:00PM, the Preacher Joey Massey will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Adam Wesley, Jake Johnson, Jack Garretson, Tony Cantrell, Brandon Mulkey.
