This news was a shock. Like the legend of the Oak Island Treasure I assumed he would be an active participant in the search, research and theories until the mystery was solved. I have followed his research since the first three books and was impressed with his ability to both root out details and then see a bigger picture that has broadened the historical knowledge of the Oak Island mystery, Nova Scotia and northeastern North America. His partnership with Doc Hamels was a 1 + 1 = 3 and has continued to add to his body of work. I enjoyed several correspondences by email with Jim which mean a great deal to me. Also, I have a full shelf of his books.

Too often it takes an obituary to begin to understand the full life of a person we thought we knew. My sincere condolances to his family and the many people who had Jim as a regular part of their lives. The memory of Jim's amazing life will live on both in his writings and the inspiration they will be to those who follow.

Jim was a talented, kind, and very personable man. I met him at the Blair Corporation back in the early 2000´s and worked with him to support the Apple Computers in the graphics design department. My kids and I also enjoyed your music very much at the NE Wineries and had the honor of you two playing Jimmy Buffet music for us at a private party on Lake Chautauqua.
We are very sorry for your loss and our prayers are with you and your family.

While I did not know the man, I heard him speak on the Diggin' Oak Island podcast. I fully agreed with his theories and appreciated his research and dedication to the cause. He will be missed and his research should be carried on by someone - I hope he was mentoring someone who can carry on with it. His passing is definitely a shock - he always sounded so robust and fully engaged in everything he was doing. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones. You know more than I do what a loss this truly is for your family and I think, for the world. - Ginger R - Nashville, TN

With your knowledge and enthusiasm, you crossed boundaries that seemed impossible to everyone else. I had the great honor of meeting you - even if only through messages - and that has been a true gift and a light you shared with me. Today, I return that light to you, so it may guide you home.

James, thank you for every moment of courage, kindness, and dedication you brought into this world.
You will remain in the hearts of all who knew you - remembered as someone who connected people, stood firmly for what mattered, and faced challenges with quiet strength.

May the peace you deserve now embrace you.
Rest in light and silence.

I only knew Jim from Oak Island, but I own several of his books, and his insights into Scottish history and the colonization if North America were well thought out and very insightful. His ideas very well could rewrite history. Full sail and God speed, Jim, may your ancestors welcome you with bagpipes and open arms.

As a fellow Oak Island researcher, it was James who held out his hand in friendship and scholarly support as I entered examining this enigmatic story, which he had expertly covered. We had a comical if not crazy banter with dueling Funny Friday Post battles on Facebook... always trying to out do each other as corny comics. He invited my work into his books and all of my books has Jim's salient words at the front of all my publications. We shared and assisted each other in our specific research, to advance our efforts, not to compete in them. Always seeming calm, a gentle giant... James A. McQuiston gave to the inquiring and will be missed as his vision is key to solving the real treasures in life. Bye Jim!

My heart felt condolences to Jim's family and all in Clan Uisdean that he touched. Jim and I just connected for the first time in early fall. Turns out we share the same grandfather times 6. In the short time we emailed I enjoyed his messages. Quickly discovered that even in an email, Jim's personality comes through.

Was looking forward to two old historians eventually meeting up. Guess we'll meet on the other side and I know Jim will be introducing all of us to our clan ancestors!

Rest easy Jim.
