James Thomas "Jim" Menapace, 80, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, March 13, 2023, while in the care of Park Village Southside at New Philadelphia.
Born on March 22, 1942, Jim was a son of the late Louis N. and Adeline (DeCotiis) Menapace.
He was a 1960 graduate of Immaculate Conception and on July 16, 1966 married the late Eleanor L. Menapace and together raised three children.
Jim honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. Then, he began his professional career with Reeves Steel and later AK Steel. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, gardening, and hunting and fishing. He also loved to vacation at Myrtle Beach and spend time boating at Salt Fork Lake and Dale Hollow Lake with his family.
His faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Church.
He will be missed by his three children, Cheryl (Terry) Walker of Strasburg, William (Carolyn) Menapace of New Philadelphia, and Karen (Sam) Distefano of Columbus; a sister, Janice Hughes formerly of Bolivar; a brother-in-law, Robert (Jean) Nadeau of Dover; and his grandchildren, Jace and Dylan Walker, Charlotte and Nicklas Menapace, and Anna Distefano and two step-grandchildren, Peyton and Alison Distefano.
The family will greet guests on Friday, March 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 6:45 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, March 18 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the VFW will render military honors.
Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or Immaculate Conception, 206 N 1st St, Dennison, OH 44621.
