James Miller

Defiance - James Frederick Miller, 87, Defiance, passed from his earthly life on Saturday, December 13, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born December 7, 1938, in Defiance, Ohio, to the late J. Frederick and Frieda (Gustin) Miller. After graduating in 1956 from Defiance High School, he worked several years for the B&O Railroad, then served in the U.S. Army 23rd Engineer Bn, in Hanau, Germany, from 1961 to 1963. He very much enjoyed working at Dinner Bell in Defiance until its closure and then at Frozen Specialties in Archbold, OH, until his retirement in 2006. Jim was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, where he served on the Board of Finance, and also as an usher and a trustee.

Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy (Anderson) Miller; sons Craig (Susan) Miller, Defiance, and Stephen (Heather) Miller, Bryan; and daughter Carrie (Jeffrey) Culp, Ayersville. He was Grandpa to Jorja and Camden Miller, and Lana and Willa Culp. He also is survived by brothers Jerry (Judy) Miller, Cape May, New Jersey; John (Jane) Miller, Madison, Ohio; Philip (Pat) Miller, Oregon, Ohio; and sisters Beth Miller, Defiance; and Barbara (Jim) Burgess; Westerville, Ohio. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Lisa Miller.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, in the Fellowship Hall of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with the funeral service at the church, on Thursday, December 18, at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Kurt Mews. There will be an additional hour of visitation before the funeral service, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, OH. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to direct memorial donations to CHP, Defiance, or St. John Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Zachrich Family Funeral Home of Holgate.
