James Houston Miller, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2018. He is the beloved husband of Valerie Elaine Miller (deceased), dearest father of Jay (Hope), Kirk (Stacey), Todd (Amy), and Hallie Wagner (John), and cherished grandfather of Josh, Sam, Lexi, Sean, Brooklyn, McKenzie, Lily, Ethan, Jack, Robert, and Eloise. Jim was born on November 18, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Bowling Green State University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree, and then The Ohio State University, where he earned his Master's Degree. He went on to become a much-beloved educator for 40 years in the Parma City School District. Jim met his wife Valerie (a home economics teacher) at the Parma schools. During his career with the District he took on many roles, including teacher, junior high school principal, administrator, and ending as a high school counselor at Parma Senior High School, where his good advice and talent for gauging the special personalities and skills of all his students guided many to bright and successful futures. He greatly enjoyed his retirement, spending more time with his children and grandchildren, traveling around the world with his wife, playing tennis, watching Ohio State football, along with many other sporting events, with his sons, and spending time with his many friends at bridge club and other social gatherings. Private interment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the "PCPTA Geranium Fund" in honor of James Miller c/o Parma City Schools, 5311 Longwood Avenue, Parma, Ohio 44134. Mr. Miller was my counselor throughout my years at PSH. He was absolutely the best! His advice and support were critical to me during those years. He was even the class elected faculty speaker for commencement during our senior year! He will be missed, but left his mark on many, many students.

Jim was my friend, and I loved him. I treasured his postcards from his travels and the stories he'd tell. We shared our love of BGSU and of the students we worked with at Parma Sr. High. His encouragement helped me to be a better teacher and his friendship helped me be a better person. He was truly special.

What a handsome and wonderful man. Everyone who knew him benefited from the time spent with him. He and Valerie were the best looking couple and best dancers at every prom. I will miss him. ❤
