Mr. James "Jimmy" Benjamin Monroe, age 90, longtime Savannah and Springfield area resident, passed away on Sunday evening, September 28, 2025 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

Born in Savannah, he was the third born of eight children in the family. He grew up in Savannah, where he attended school, before joining the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged he began a long career in the industrial steel manufacturing and fabrication industry. Mr. Monroe worked as a Welder and Fabricator with TIC in Savannah, until retiring in 1997. He was soon there after invited to join Roberts Testing in Pooler where he worked as a Consultant and Managing supervisor until retiring at the are of eighty. During his career he contributed to projects, to include, Plant Vogtle in Augusta, GA as well as projects in Juliette, IL. Since 2024 he has lived with his son, Eddie, in Statesboro.

"Jimmy" enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed the intricate detail involved in building models.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints.

Mr. Monroe is preceded in death by his wife, Mellany Miller Monroe, who passed away in 2009, his parents, Charles Henry Monroe and Lois Winifred Coley Monroe, a daughter, Cindy Monroe, of Memphis, siblings, Charles Henry Monroe Jr., Joseph Monroe, Edna Dailey, Robert Monroe, John Monroe and William Monroe.

He leaves behind, his children, Jerome Casa, Savannah, GA, Audrey Davis, Statesboro, GA, Gayla Monroe, Tampa, FL, James Monroe, Savannah, GA, Kim Monroe, Louisville, KY, Matt Monroe, Statesboro, GA, Charles "Eddie" Monroe, Statesboro, GA, his only living sibling, Judy Jones (Tim), Elbron, VA and several grand and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home.

Mr. Monroe will be laid to rest beside his wife in Carter's Chapel Cemetery, near Scott, GA.

His family will receive visitors on Saturday, at Sammons Funeral Home, from 12 noon until the hour of service.
