James Milton "Jim" Montgomery, a beloved resident of Carrollton, Kentucky, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 8, 1943, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, Jim's journey through life was filled with passion, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
A proud member of the National Guard for six years, Jim exemplified service and commitment to his country. His love for nature and the great outdoors was reflected in his hobbies; he cherished gardening, with a particular fondness for his day lilies and the tranquility of working in his greenhouse. Jim enjoyed camping and horseback riding, and he found immense joy in flying roller pigeons. He was also a regular at Welch's each morning, where he cherished the camaraderie of his Coffee Club friends.
Jim’s family was a cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Crystal Montgomery, and his daughter, Paige Poe of Carrollton, Ky, along with two sons, Doug (Jenaette) Montgomery of Carrollton, KY, and Eric (Brooke) Montgomery of Houston, Texas. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Erica, Ainsley, Seamus, Caitlin, and Cloie, and delighted in being a great-grandfather to Camden, Skarlett, Bexley, and Cailin. He is also survived by his sister, Anna Joyce (Dalton) Brown, and sister-in-law Pat Montgomery, as well as brother-in-law Harold Wright.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Hubert Ray Montgomery, and his mother, Bernice Dunaway Montgomery. His legacy continues to be honored by his surviving family, even as he joins his deceased siblings: Delores Jean Robinson, Nancy Carol Wright, and brothers William Lee Montgomery, Edward Moore Montgomery, Harold Montgomery, and Kenneth Marvin Montgomery.
A visitation to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton on January 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
