James Moore III Obituary

Visit the Ofield Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

Jim passed away at home at the age of 75, after a life filled with love and cherished memories, always keeping family at the heart of everything he did. Jim was born February 27, 1950 in Battle Creek, Michigan, to James Lewis Moore Jr. and Betty Jane (Haywood) Moore. Jim lived in Battle Creek for 56 years before making Hamilton, Michigan home in 2006. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Heroldene “Deanie” Moore, along with his children John (Dana) Moore, and Cindy (Chris) Matulis, his siblings Larry (Karen) Moore, Donna (John) Mahoney and Rick Moore (who passed away shortly after Jim). Jim treasured his 10 grandchildren (Michael, Tyler, Ashley, Aubrie, Abigail, Johnny, Hobie, Henry, Hallie, Hazel) and 2 great-grandchildren (Theo, Elaina). They brought him great joy throughout his life. He is also survived by numerous relatives and friends, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Jim’s parents, Jim and Betty Moore, son Jim “Jimmy” Moore IV, daughter Suzzette Bartus, and great-grandson William Beach preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from Springfield High School in Michigan in 1968. Jim had a passion for computers and began his career working with them immediately after graduation. Over the years, he worked at Clark Equipment Company, the Kellogg Company, Haworth Company, and, finally, Lake Michigan Credit Union, where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Jim witnessed firsthand the incredible innovation and development of computers. When he started, computers could take up an entire room. Later in his career, they became as compact as laptops and even phones.

Jim enjoyed camping and boating. He had a special love for his dogs, who returned that love wholeheartedly. For many years, he and his family spent time camping at the Waffle Farm, which became a special place for them to get away and spend time together. Many hours were spent out on the boat while there, enjoying the water and making lasting memories. When relatives and friends came to visit, they often joined them at the campsite. Those gatherings became some of their fondest memories. Jim and his family also took many camping trips down to Florida to visit family and Disney World. In 2010, Jim traveled to Alaska with his daughter through the Alaska Great Lakes Project. During the trip, he drove one of the vans supporting a group of eighth-grade students as they traveled across the state learning about Alaska and experiencing its natural environment.

Jim’s greatest love was family. He will be deeply missed and we will forever treasure our memories and the love he shared with us.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, at Rhema Word Outreach Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow.

In memory of Jim, donations may be made to Winning at Home, a counseling organization that was near and dear to his heart.
