James Morrison Obituary

Morrison James Edward Jr. Oct. 25, 1941 - Oct. 11, 2024 Of Moultonborough, NH (formerly Philadelphia, PA area) born on October 25, 1941, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024. A proud graduate of William Penn Charter School (1960) and the University of Notre Dame (1964), Jim exemplified the spirit of hard work and dedication throughout his life. An avid fan of both Notre Dame and the Philadelphia Phillies, he carried his passion for sports with him in all aspects of his life. In 1968, Jim co-founded Gold Medal Sporting Goods, and worked as a passionate sporting goods salesperson for an impressive 48 years. His commitment to the industry and his clients earned him the respect and admiration of many. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Penny (Grelis); his son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Kathy; and his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tommy. He was a devoted family man whose love and guidance will forever resonate in their lives. Jim will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit. A Private Celebration of Jim's life will be held in Philadelphia, PA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Penn Charter, 3000 W. School House Ln., Philadelphia, PA 19144; the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, or a school of your choice supporting students in need of higher education.

I worked for Jim for a couple years and did some business with him. Jim was a good man who was involved, quietly, in many neighborhood organizations. I considered him a friend.

Jim was a true friend. I loved being with him. He and Walt Matweychuk were the best sporting goods salesmen and together it was non stop laughing. Will also remember my trip to ND with Jim and Penny. Love you Big Guy, Jack Rogers
