James Thomas Mosley
1961 - 2025
The passing of James Thomas Mosley is announced with heavy hearts. He passed on August 2nd, 2025, at the young age of 64. Jimmy was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather and great grandfather, and a friend to many.
Born on May 17th, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas. Jimmy developed a deep love for the outdoors early in life. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and the beauty of nature, often sharing these passions with family and friends. Many cherished memories were made on fishing excursions and camping trips, creating stories and laughter that will be forever remembered.
Jimmy was defined by his love for the outdoors and his devotion to his family. He consistently supported, guided, and loved his children: Robert, Kenny Ray, Melody, James Anthony, and Joe Dale and grandchildren Justin, Katelynn, Brandie, Dylan, Nevaeh, Breyden, Kenzie, Ashlyn, Alyssa, Dayne, Caleb, Madison, Lyam & LunaRae, and great-grandchildren Samantha, Gabriel, and Mateo. He instilled a love for nature, family values, respect, a strong work ethic and kindness in them. He lived his faith, always prioritizing the needs of others. He had a heart for the homeless and would give any one the shirt off his back or his last dollar.
As a child he would spend his days making sure his siblings were taken care of. He was always willing to do whatever it took to make sure they were happy and had what they needed. He took over the big brother role after the devastating passing of his older brother Anthony at such a young age. Jimmy continued his big brother duties into adulthood being there whenever one of them needed him. As family they have shared countless memories camping and fishing together.
He attended Carter-Riverside High School in Fort Worth but gained most of everything he knew from life experiences. He used hard times in life to overcome the challenges he faced, and shared that wisdom with all of his children.
At the young age of 18 Jimmy met his soulmate Gathie Gunter. A few short years later they got together and had been heartlocked ever since. He took on the role of step-dad to her two young boys aged 2 and 1, but soon they were his own. He never showed any difference between his children. They were always his kids. Together Jimmy and Gathie raised a beautiful family spanning four generations. As a couple they spent many times making memories with family friends sharing birthdays, fishing days, and trips. For them life was always about their children and the grands.
Jimmy's strong work ethic started at a young age. He took any job from frying chicken to whatever odd job to put food on the table. He soon developed a passion for installing awnings and working with his hands. Jimmy spent most of his work life at Bucks Awning and Victory Awning. There he made lasting bonds and friendships. At some point all his boys would end up working alongside him. Something he never wanted for them but a gift he didn't know he gave them. This led to his boys creating lasting memories and stories to share. For one son in particular it would lead for him to have his own awning company, which made Jimmy so proud. After retiring from awning installation he couldn't just relax. Jimmy was never the man to just sit around day after day. He began working with his other sons and daughter doing fences. He did what he loved doing until he was called home, worked alongside his greatest joys.
When not working he spent his time tinkering around the house and taking care of his animals. His love didn't end at just people. Jimmy loved raising his goats, playing with his feral cats, feeding his chickens, watching the birds at the feeders, and lounging with his dogs.
Jimmy will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, quiet strength, and generosity; he never missed an opportunity to help the next person out. He leaves behind a legacy of love, outdoor adventures, and family moments that will be treasured by those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Gathie Mosley; children Robert Gunter and his wife Qeana, Kenny Ray Gunter and his wife Amy, Melody Swindell and her husband Rodney, James Anthony Mosley and his wife Samantha, Joe Dale Thoms and wife Kayla, and his grandchildren, Justin, Katelynn, Brandie, Dylan, Nevaeh, Breyden , Kenzie, Ashlyn, Alyssa, Dayne, Caleb, Madison, Lyam & LunaRae, and great-grandchildren Samantha, Gabriel, and Mateo. Other surviving family members include his mom, Esta, sister Tammy, brother Troy, sister Alesia, brother Tracy, brother John, countless nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his dad, Delmer Paul Mosley, older brother Anthony Paul Mosley, grandchildren Holden Eli, Kuper Gunter, Kyzer Gunter, and great grandchildren Alexander J Inguanzo and Isaiah-Creed Thoms.
A graveside service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at Azle Land Memorial on August 22, 2025 at 10 am located at 850 N. Cardinal Rd in Azle. With a celebration of life to follow at 230 Raley Rd in Weatherford.
His passing leaves a void, but his spirit will live on in the beauty of the outdoors and in the hearts of his loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County in memory of James Mosley.
